Department of Basic Education and Physical Education Institute of South Africa host fourth symposium

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) and the Physical Education Institute of South Africa (PEISA) will on 06 and 07 April 2018 host the fourth Physical Education Symposium as part of Physical Education Month. The theme for 2018 Physical Education Symposium is: “Quality Physical Education in Action!”

For South Africa, the UNESCO - QPE project is a significant undertaking that will form part of the national CSTL aligned Physical Education implementation plan. This plan which serves as a sector guide for supporting the instruction of Curriculum Orientated Physical Education was adopted at the 2nd annual Physical Education symposium of 2016. The symposia is central to a series of established Physical Education advocacy and sector mobilisation campaigns, held as part of the department and PEISA’s annual calendar, including being an integral part of the National Physical Education Month and Day celebrations observed from 6 April to 10 May.

The 2018 Physical Education symposium will hosted by the Northern Cape Department of Education (NCED), targeting the Life Skills and Life Orientation curriculum education specialist. Of significance is that this year’s symposium the DBE, NCED and PEISA will be hosting the first ever Physical Education Teacher Awards: in recognition for excellence in the teaching of Physical Education and to give due credit and respect to the profession.
