91 schools and hostels to receive deserved facelift


Kimberley- A total of 91 schools have been earmarked for major repairs and renovations during this current financial year. This will also include twelve (12) school hostel facilities throughout the province.An amount of about R54 million has been made available for maintenance and repairs and it will include projects like fencing, sanitation, accessibility, electricity and water projects, as well as conversions.A total of 54 schools in the province received a much needed facelift in the past financial year.Boitshoko primary school in Galeshewe, Frances Baard district is one of the schools that got a cosmetic improvement valued at R848 985.Most of the repairs and renovations include flooring repairs, replacement of doors, shelves, chalkboards, ceilings, replacement of sanitary fittings, painting work and cleaning of school sites.More than R 30 million was spent for schools’ renovations and repairs during the 2014/15 financial year.Most of the schools that were renovated last year are in Frances Baard, John Taolo Gaetsewe and Pixley ka Seme districts respectively.
