HIV and AIDS/Life Skills

The aim of the Conditional Grant is to increase knowledge and awareness of health promoting behaviours.  The emphasis has been on providing sexuality and reproductive health education as well as care and support services for learners, educators, school support staff and officials. Amongst others, the Life Skills programme implements the National Strategy on Drug and Substance Abuse and a total of 151 lay-counsellors and 363 peer educators were trained in the 201 1/12 financial year.  The education sector in South Africa is assigned a lead role on prevention in the HIV and AIDS and STI National Strategic Plan (NSP).  The Northern Cape Department of Education will, accordingly, rework its HIV AND AIDS/Life Skills Programme to be aligned to this strategy.
